How messages are delivered
On the morning of the delivery date, your recipient receives a quiet, private email letting them know something has been kept for them.
The email contains a secure, personal link — no account needed, no public post. Just them, and your message.
That link brings them to a private reveal page where they can read your letter, watch your video, or listen to your voice recording. They can save or download it to keep forever.
Only people you've chosen to share it with will ever see it.
Your message is stored encrypted and only decrypted at the moment of delivery. No one at earlier.me can read it before then.

Questions
What if the recipient doesn't have an email address?
That's okay — you don't need one right now. You can always add the recipient's email address later before the delivery date arrives (we'll periodically prompt you for this).
You can also add Trusted Keepers — people who receive a copy of the delivery link alongside the recipient. If your recipient's email is never provided, or the message is delivered but never opened, your Keepers can make sure it reaches the right hands.
Can I edit my message later?
Of course! Every part of your message is editable right up until it's delivered — the text, the recipient, the recording, even the delivery date itself. Nothing is locked in until the day it arrives.
What if the delivery date is many years away?
No problem at all. We use enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure to keep your message safely stored for as long as it needs to be — whether that's two years or twenty. Your message will be right where it's supposed to be when the day finally arrives.
What if something happens to me before the delivery date?
Your message will still be delivered. That's the whole point of earlier.me — it doesn't rely on you being there to press send.
On the scheduled date, the message goes out automatically, regardless of what happens in the years in between. That's part of what makes it such a meaningful thing to create.
What if earlier.me doesn't exist anymore when my delivery date arrives?
We've planned for this carefully. In the unlikely event that earlier.me ever needs to close, we commit to:
- Notifying every user by email at least 90 days in advance
- Delivering every scheduled message before shutdown — no exceptions
- Providing a full data export of your message content so you have a copy
- Exploring transfer to a trusted partner service where possible
Beyond that: your messages are stored across redundant AWS infrastructure with continuous backups. There's no single point of failure. And your Trusted Keepers hold a delivery link — meaning even if email delivery failed entirely, someone who loves that recipient already has what they need.
We've thought hard about this. A message meant for 20 years from now deserves a system that takes that seriously.
