How messages are delivered
On the morning of each delivery date, the recipient receives a quiet, private email letting them know something has been kept for them.
The email contains a secure, personal link — no account needed, no public post. Just them, and the message.
That link brings them to a private reveal page where they can read the letter, watch the video, or listen to the recording. They can save or download it to keep forever.
Only the people it's meant for will ever see it.
Each message is stored encrypted and only decrypted at the moment of delivery. No one at earlier.me can read it before then.

Wait — so who actually records the messages?
You do. You reserve the dates that matter, then record a message for each one — privately, in your own words, whenever you're ready. We hold them safely and deliver each one on its day.
Giving it as a gift? Then the person you give it to does the recording instead — you reserve the dates and we send them an invite. Everything else works exactly the same.
What if I don't get around to recording right away?
There's no deadline. The dates you reserve stay open indefinitely — record this week, or years from now, one year at a time or many in a single sitting.
Nothing is lost if a year goes by untouched; that date is simply still there, waiting, whenever you're ready.
Can I reserve more than one date?
Absolutely — reserve as many as you like. The first date is $29 and each additional date is $19, the same whether you record them yourself or reserve the dates for someone else. A common pairing is a child's birthday plus Christmas — and each date can have its own recipient.
How do the messages get delivered?
When you set up a date, you choose who it's delivered to. On the morning of that date each year, they receive a quiet, private email with a secure link — no account needed, no public post.
Every part of a message stays editable right up until it's delivered. Nothing is locked in until the day it arrives.
What if something happens to me?
Every message you've recorded will still be delivered. That's the whole point of earlier.me — it doesn't rely on anyone being there to press send.
On each scheduled date, the message goes out automatically, regardless of what happens in the years in between. For many people, that's the most meaningful part: a way to keep being there, no matter what.
What if earlier.me doesn't exist anymore when a delivery date arrives?
We've planned for this carefully. In the unlikely event that earlier.me ever needs to close, we commit to:
- Notifying every user by email at least 90 days in advance
- Delivering every scheduled message before shutdown — no exceptions
- Providing a full data export of message content so there's always a copy
- Exploring transfer to a trusted partner service where possible
Beyond that: messages are stored across redundant AWS infrastructure with continuous backups. There's no single point of failure. A message meant for 20 years from now deserves a system that takes that seriously.
